There’s a view that imports are lucrative and involve a lot of kickbacks.. It really needs to shake off its lethargy on this count. That doesn’t seem very likely, though the economy is still recovering slowly from the reckless demonetisation and the hurried rollout of the Goods and Services Tax. The government doesn’t seem too worried, it feels the structural reforms it has started will soften the impact of high crude prices. It didn’t want to be dependent on Middle East oil because of political reasons, and it has succeeded tremendously. It’s imperative India follow the example of the United States, which increased its domestic production hugely through the development of its shale resources. Nothing seems to change, despite the valiant efforts of the petroleum ministry and ONGC.The Narendra Modi government, that lays so much stress on “Make-in-India”, should push more aggressively for making India less dependent on imported crude. India has a huge coastline and must strive harder to explore oilfields, both onshore and offshore. It’s a pity that even 70 years after Independence, India still depends on oil imports for 80 per cent of its energy needs. The government desperately needs to develop an efficient public transport system to ensure there are fewer cars on the roads.

India too has shale deposits but one doesn’t hear about any efforts made to recover these. Now, three years later, oil prices are hovering around $60/barrel, and there are fears it could impact the government’s finances. Whether this is true or not, it certainly should be looked into blown film extruders Manufacturers Prime Minister Narendra Modi was lucky that oil prices were low when he took over in 2014, so he could tackle the economy that was left on a shaky wicket by the Manmohan Singh government. Efforts were made to try make India more self-reliant in oil years ago, they seem to have been half-hearted and met with little success. The Narendra Modi government, that lays so much stress on “Make-in-India”, should push more aggressively for making India less dependent on imported crude. India seems to lack the fire and will to be self-sufficient. What is required is judicious management of oil resources and immediate stoppage of its wasteful use.

He said and I quote: “Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel. We believe that the resolution brought by Engineer Rashid to seek clemency for late Afzal Guru was justified and should have been adopted by the house at that time. While the slogans raised by a bunch of students to mark the third anniversary of the implementation of capital punishment awarded to Afzal Guru are certainly undesirable, by no stretch of the law do they constitute criminality, much less sedition. The third, and perhaps the most important, is that the RSS-BJP feels that this is the one chance that they have got after 67 years of Independence to change the fundamental narrative of India.Similarly, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), with whom the BJP was running an alliance government in J&K till yesterday had, as late as March 3, 2015, in a written statement declared: “PDP has always maintained that late Afzal Guru’s hanging was travesty of justice and constitutional requirements and process was not followed in hanging him out of turn PDP stands by the demand for return of his (Guru’s) mortal remains, and the party promises to follow vigorously for the return of the mortal remains. Earlier, during the Assam agitation in the early ’80s, the All Assam Students Union, the progenitor of the AGP, was equally creative in its protests. For if the pulp patriotism of the Bharatiya Janata Party was indeed something more than chicanery, then they should break their alliance with the Akali Dal in Punjab as for the current chief minister Parkash Singh Badal’s political party was routinely involved in burning of the Indian Constitution in the early ’80s. Anybody with even a nodding acquaintance with the consolidation of Nazism is Germany between 1933 and 1936 after Adolf Hitler seized power would see the same pattern playing itself out in India over the past 20 months. While it has no hesitation in sending it’s police into women’s hostels in JNU, ostensibly searching for anti-national elements, it is equally blasé about announcing half-baked accords like the one with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah) in August 2015. For the first thing that the thugs of the Waffen-SS did was to go after every writer, teacher, playwright, filmmaker, and any other intellectual, that it considered hostile to the ideological mould they wanted to cast Germany in. They would squeeze the liberal spaces in the country, stamp out the right to dissent and crush the alternative narrative by misusing the instrumentalities of the state. Perhaps it would have been better if the government had advised the RSS to unfurl the Tricolour once in a while at their headquarters in Nagpur or in their offices across India.Given all these apparent contradictions, why is it that the government tried to frame the entire issue in the nationalist qua traitor paradigm. Many RSS and BJP leaders have used the choicest epithets to describe the university with one “eminence” of the RSS labelling it as the Centre of intellectual terrorism in a TV debate China blown film extruders Manufacturers with me on February 18. The appointment of fellow travellers to institutions, like the Central Board of Film Certification, the Film and Television Institute of India, the Indian Council of Historical Research, despite stiff opposition from the stakeholders and the hounding of a young student to suicide on the campus of Hyderabad University are but manifestations of this insidious design.

The views expressed are personal. It was based upon certain tweets emanating from the account of Hafiz Saeed, the godfather of all Punjab-based terrorist groups in Pakistan, that have a purely India focus. If the RSS has its way, it would shut the university down, lock stock and barrel and throw the keys into the Bay of Bengal. In the JNU matter there was no encouragement to violence or even provocation to create disorder. For example, the knee-jerk diktat by the “highly academically qualified” human resource development minister Smriti Irani in response to the developments in JNU.On the evening of April 7, 1775, the British man of letters Samuel Johnson made a rather prophetic assertion. Allegedly seditious speech and expression may be punished only if the speech is an incitement to violence or public disorder. However, what is far more portentous is the flimflam of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government.Second, the Centre believes that by taking the low road of jingoism it can label every censure of the government not as anti-BJP or anti-NDA, but as anti-national.For the law on sedition as laid down by the Supreme Court in a catena of judgments from Kehar Singh to Shreya Singhal is very clear. It can not be the case that officials would not have informed Mr Singh about the veracity of the account that he decided to use to point a finger at non-state actors in Pakistan. Ms Irani directed that the national flag must be flown in all Central universities as if it did not earlier.” The statement was about the false use of the term “patriotism” by William Pitt, the first Earl of Chatham (the patriot minister) and his supporters. That begs a fundamental question as to why did the Centre resort to the use of the most draconian section in Indian criminal law — a provision that none other than Mahatma Gandhi described as the “prince among the political sections of the Indian Penal Code designed to suppress the liberty of the citizen”.Having served in the United Progressive Alliance government, I am well aware that the government has the capacity to track social media. The NSCN(IM) has been waging a war against the Indian state for decades. Twitter handle @manishtewari. In fact, in the latter case that struck down Section 66A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, the Supreme Court even drew a distinction between “advocacy and incitement”. If the government has such a huge problem with slogans shouted by some students, how is it so nonchalant about negotiating with armed insurgents However, what took the cake was home minister Rajnath Singh saying that there was a Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) link to the incident in the JNU. For when you sow the wind you reap the whirlwind and stopping this pulp patriotism from consuming India would require a lot of good men and women to step up to the plate. The prophecy is unfortunately coming true. In fact, on February 27, 1984, Mr Badal personally led a band of protesters who burnt copies of Article 25(2)(b) of the Indian Constitution outside Parliament — an offence far more heinous than raising anti-India slogans. However, the intrinsic lack of sophistication in implementing a devious project of transforming the basis of a nation exposes their ineptitude as nothing else does, making them objects of ridicule if not mirth. On the evening of April 7, 1775, the British man of letters Samuel Johnson made a rather prophetic assertion. The context is apt to describe the trigger happy response of the Central government to l’affaire Jawaharlal Nehru University. First and foremost, the progenitor of the BJP, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, has a visceral hatred for the JNU.In November 2013, at the International Film Festival of India in Goa, I had cautioned the creative community that the ominous drumbeats of fascism are growing louder and a great evil would soon stalk our land. Similarly, in Assam, the party that the BJP was negotiating to tie up with, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), had on August 19, burnt copies of the 119th Constitutional Amendment Bill to protest against the Land Boundary Agreement with Bangladesh that Mr Modi now claims as a feather in his cap. Since 1947, there have been two competing visions of India. The writer is a lawyer and a former Union minister. The liberal, progressive, pluralist idea of India as articulated and implemented by the founding fathers of the Indian Constitution that and majoritarian, theocratic and obscurantist worldview that seeks to convert India into a monolithic “Hindu Rashtra” conveniently ignoring the intrinsic diversity of the Hindu faith. Saeed later disowned the tweets as well as the account itself. It has been over 11 days since the said incident took place and the Centre is still scrambling for evidence to substantiate the sedition charge that was levelled against Kanhaiya Kumar, the president of the JNU students’ union, who continues to be wrongfully incarcerated.”It is typical of the BJP to have one standard in Delhi and another in Srinagar.

“Prominent state leaders were involved in the 2G scam while we are working towards Digital India. The 2G verdict could provide more ammunition to BJP’s long-held aim of a “Congress Mukt Bharat” (Congress-free India) by unsettling the Congress — DMK alliance that is going strong in Tamil Nadu.P.DMK carried the 2G stigma for too long; in fact, much more than the Congress whose leader Manmohan Singh was at the helm.BJP insiders say the Modi government should never be diluting its stand on corruption since that was the single-most important issue that catapulted the then Gujarat chief minister to Race Course Road with a brute majority that no leader could manage since Rajiv Gandhi in 1984.The DMK’s clout seemed to have weighed heavily on Modi’s mind when he made an unscheduled stop at DMK chief M. Politically speaking, the DMK would prove to be the best for the BJP that is struggling to make inroads in southern India. Dhinakaran, a nephew of Sasikala, as the future leader of the party. The verdict can well be used by the BJP to rope in the DMK, poised to install its sixth government since its inception in 1949 whenever the state goes to polls, in its pursuit of letting the “lotus” bloom in the heart of the Dravidian land. Without one side, the currency would lose its value in a country that has learnt its value after demonetisation.V. But her political journey was cut short. The BJP, which hoped to reap rich political benefits in Tamil Nadu following the demise of its ideological ally J. Saini acquitted former telecom minister A Raja and DMK’s Kanimozhi of all charges in the seven-year-old case. They also point out that an appeal in the case would “politically help” BJP to keep the issue of “Congress’ corruption” alive in the next elections. It would not be prudent, sources say, for BJP to go for an appeal and align with DMK since that would amount to diminishing its “anti-corruption” plank.. Karunanidhi’s residence on November 6 during his short visit to Chennai. The BJP, especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi who made the 2G case a centre point of his crusade against corruption in 2014 and in the 2016 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, were left with egg on their faces.

The opportunity also comes at the right time when the BJP looks bruised after having burnt its fingers by unsuccessfully implementing several ideas to get the AIADMK alive and kicking. And, since the anti-corruption mood dominated the country fuelled by the Anna Hazare movement and BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi’s “clean image”, the DMK was decimated in two elections — 2011 Tamil Nadu Assembly and 2014 Lok Sabha — though it came within sniffing distance to rule the state yet again in 2016.If DMK is on one side of the 2G coin, the Congress is on the other. Money from the recent coal auctions has been utilised to serve the poorest of the poor, unlike the past when money was looted,’ said Mr Modi in Chennai during the 2016 Assembly election campaign directing his barb against the DMK, though he spared his long-time friend and ally Jayalalithaa, who eventually got her mandate renewed for five years. But on December 21, everything turned topsy-turvy when the Special CBI judge O.The DMK will certainly use the 2G verdict to its advantage,  but the BJP must choose between two difficult options – its future in Tamil Nadu or its pivotal corruption plank that pumps blood to its existence.T. Jayalalithaa last December, is now largely responsible for the rise of T.But, here comes the BJP’s dilemma — how can the 2G case be dumped once and for all — it was and still could be the most potent weapon against Congress that is now showing signs of resurgence. At face value, the verdict might just look as an embarrassment for the BJP, but it has landed the ruling party in a catch-22 situation. In that case, the BJP would be accused of “double standards” if three-dimensional printer screws Manufacturers it aligns with DMK and targets only the Congress for 2G.P. Saini acquitted former telecom minister A Raja and DMK’s Kanimozhi of all charges in the seven-year-old case.DMK carried the 2G stigma for too long; in fact, much more than the Congress whose leader Manmohan Singh was at the helm. But the ruling party at the Centre was cautious in its response: It singled out the Congress saying the verdict was “not a badge of honour” for it since the Supreme Court had already cancelled 122 2G spectrum licences. On December 21, everything turned topsy-turvy when the Special CBI judge O. Chennai: For three elections since 2011, the BJP made 2G spectrum allocation the nucleus of its election campaign across the country, especially in Tamil Nadu, by launching a no-holds barred attack against the DMK accusing it of being “immersed in corruption”
